Strength Training for Footballers – Manager 2.0

Andre Villas Boas - Manager 2.0

With the appointment of Andre Villas- Boas as the new Chelsea Manager, we have  been all given a little bit of hope.

As any man  over a certain age soon realises, the dream of being a professional footballer dies, when you reach ‘a certain age’.

Andre’s appointment though, keeps the dream alive, that although we will never make it as a footballer, there is always a slim  chance we can still be a manager.

Along with Jose Mourinho, Villas-Boas is showing that you do not have to be a first class footballer to be a first class manager.  Let’s hope this trend continues and all the ‘armchair’ managers can still live in hope.

We all have opinions on how the game should be played and dream ‘ if only I had a chance’.   From what we here about AVB, he is a ‘technical manager’ using software, stats and sophistication.  In many ways similar to Arsene Wenger.  Maybe the old ‘hairdryer’ managers are dying out and a new breed are on the way – Manager 2.0.

One of our clients - Sports Therapy Scotland has recently posted a blog about  Strength Training for Footballers and it struck me how technical and sophisticated sports science has become, with everyone looking for that little edge, that makes all the difference between winning and losing.

And maybe all the geeks now working in IT and web design, who never got picked for the school football team, will get their chance to bring their IT skills into the sporting arena.
